This project included construction of historically aligned canals and towpaths and 3 steel bridges over the canal systems. Serving at the location of previous Buffalo Memorial Auditorium or “The Aud”, the Buffalo Inner Harbor project provides a recreation of the 1830’s “canal era”, inclusive of a realignment of the historic canals. It includes an ice skating rink in the winter months and a reflection pond, complete with a ring of fire in the summer months.
The recreated canals total to approximately 35,000 SF of ice and pond use - a surface greater than two NHL rinks. The pedestrian bridges, towpaths and immigrant steps add a complete representation of the downtown Buffalo area as it would have been seen in the early 1900’s.
